As is known, the LL has recently changed its contractual conditions towards SL users. The changes introduced have been the subject of many criticisms in the socials and, consequently, the same LL has changed its original idea regarding some aspects. We see what happened and try to understand if the choice of the LL was inevitable, or speculation.
- 1 news → Land price reduction, according to the following scheme:
A change in line with the news that started the past year. A 15% reduction on the price of private estates, a 10% reduction on the amount in Mainland and a doubling of the size of the land available for users premium.
* as specified by the LL itself, the reductions do not apply to sims dedicated to role play. Discounts for educational and non-profit purposes will be updated to keep the 50% reduction on the purchase price. Furthermore, residents in some EU countries may incur increases due to VAT or other improvements concerning current tax legislation.
- 2 news → Changes for the premium and basic plans (increase in the value of the premium membership, price changes, and more)
Here the “sore point” was the reduction in the number of groups a basic account can join, which went from 42 to 35, like originally communicated in a first announcement. Subsequently, as a result of the numerous criticisms, LL accepted the requests of the users and the number of groups remains unchanged at 42. The capacity for receiving IMs offline is also reduced in the face of a considerable increase for premium accounts.
*All the rest is unchanged, therefore: the weekly salary of L $ 300, the exclusive gifts, the privileged access to the Full Regions and the instant assistance chat service.
Premium users now have innovative homes, with double the plot of land and the possibility to change their home theme without limits among those available. These aspects justified an increase in the value of the premium membership and, consequently, the following updates in the subscriptions, as shown in the table below:

As of June 3, there is the possibility of blocking a further renewal cycle at the previous (more advantageous) price. So, if you have an annual subscription, you can renew for an additional year at the old cost, and so on.
- 3 news → Starting from June 24, the tax on credits (which only affects those who convert Lindens into current currency, such as EURO or DOLLARS) will increase from 2.5% to 5% per transaction.
Warning! This one is not an unjustified increase, but a consequence of the rise imposed by PayPal for micropayments (with a value of less than $ 10) to which the LL can do nothing but adapt to avoid incurring losses.
Conclusions: LL seems to want favoring land purchases, lowering the related costs. To fill the lower income due to the lowering of land purchase costs, it chose to increase the costs related to Premium Membership. This choice is also motivated by the premium user benefits from a higher value subscription, because of the important improvements on the houses, the increase in the number of groups anyone can join to, and a higher capacity for the receipt of the IMs offline.
Warning! The changes will take effect from June 24. It is now possible to renew for a further cycle at the old cost (more advantageous).
